ARTIST STATEMENT
Through extensive research on near-death experiences, I learned that those who experience a brush with death often emerge with a completely transformed perspective on life, undergoing dramatic shifts in their personality and priorities. They often emerge gentler, kinder, and more willing to face life’s fears knowing that death is not such a terrifying and mysterious unknown. With Upon Waking, I wrestled with themes of forgiveness of both self and other, healing the pain of abandonment, facing one’s deep dark places, and what it means to love unconditionally. Making this film was a transformative experience for myself and my creative collaborators, and we hope to share the film with an audience that resonates with its rich and complex messages.
